SC Association for Volunteer Administration to become Together SC Peer Network
The SC Association for Volunteer Administration (SCAVA) has brought together volunteer managers for networking, professional development and advancement since 1977. Now, the SCAVA Board has determined that the time has come to reorganize SCAVA into something new.
To that end, the Board has voted to partner with Together SC, the statewide association of charitable nonprofit organizations, and reorganize SCAVA as a peer network within Together SC. SCAVA will dissolve as an independent association effective December 31, 2020. The SCAVA Board has appointed a transition team, which is currently working on the details of closing SCAVA and establishing the peer network.
The Volunteer Administrators Peer Network will continue SCAVA’s mission to inspire, educate, and support leaders of volunteers within Together SC's mission to strengthen, unite, and advance South Carolina's nonprofit and philanthropic organizations.
The peer network’s activities will be directed by a Leadership Team, and each local affiliate chapter will be asked to nominate one member to serve on the team.
Affiliate chapter chairs have been notified and encouraged to find a local organization that can serve as a host organization for their “affiliate” activities and to be a fiscal sponsor.
As of December 31, all SCAVA members will become Together SC members. For those whose organizations are already Together SC members, their membership will be combined with their organization's and staff working with volunteers will have access to the volunteer peer network.
Those whose work for organizations that are not yet Together SC members will be granted a Friend Membership for the duration of their SCAVA membership period, and can then be renewed at $50/year. This membership provides full access to participate in the volunteer peer network. The former local affiliates may charge a separate membership fee.
Please know that this decision to move in this direction was a very thoughtful one. The SCAVA Board felt the opportunities with Together SC will exceed what SCAVA was able to accomplish alone and the work will be more stable in this new structure. Support for volunteer professionals in South Carolina will only be stronger as a result of this change!
We would like to thank you for your past support and participation.
Yours In Service,
The SCAVA/Together SC Transition Committee
