We are excited to announce the launch of the highly anticipated 5th Edition of Guiding Principles for South Carolina Nonprofits. Fully updated and thoughtfully expanded, this new edition is made possible by the tireless efforts of the Consultant Collaborative and our generous sponsors. It is available for free download to every nonprofit in our state.
First published in 2007, the Guiding Principles have long served as South Carolina’s trusted framework for nonprofit excellence. This new edition reflects the tremendous growth and evolution of our sector over the past 18 years, from navigating a global pandemic to integrating generative AI into our work to strengthening our collective voice through advocacy, while remaining rooted in the timeless foundations of strong governance, accountability, and effective leadership.
We hope you find these Guiding Principles an effective tool for assessing your nonprofit’s performance. We encourage you to discuss them with your staff and Board of Directors to foster continuous improvement as you strive to achieve your mission.
We believe deeply that every nonprofit, regardless of size, location, or budget, deserves access to high-quality tools to run an efficient, proper, and legally sound organization. Strong nonprofits build stronger communities, and access should never be a barrier.
The 5th Edition covers ten critical areas of nonprofit leadership and management and is designed to support:
-
Organizational self-assessment
-
Board and staff development
-
Strategic planning
-
Accountability and transparency
-
Continuous learning and improvement
If your organization is not yet a member of Together SC, we hope you will consider joining. Much of our training, programming, peer networks, and convenings align directly with the teachings of the Guiding Principles, and we would love to support your organization as you grow, learn, advocate, and partner alongside this statewide network.
