Together SC Unveils Five-Year Strategic Plan to Strengthen and Unite South Carolina’s Nonprofit Network

Together SC, the state’s network for nonprofit and philanthropic leaders, has announced a new five-year strategic plan to guide its work through 2030. Rooted in the organization’s mission to strengthen and unite South Carolina’s nonprofit network, the plan outlines three ambitious goals focused on expanding member support, amplifying sector visibility, and ensuring long-term sustainability. 

Developed in partnership with Heightened Development, the plan reflects insights from more than 2,100 stakeholders gathered between April and June 2025 through surveys, interviews, and focus groups. Participants included nonprofit executives, staff, board members, funders, and community partners from every region of the state. 

”We are energized by the five-year strategic planning process and have a solid foundation to grow our member access, our resources and trainings, as well as our financial stability, so that we can meet the needs of our members for years to come,” said President and CEO Karen Riordan. 

Three Goals to Guide the Next Five Years 

• Advance member access to targeted supports across roles and regions. 
  Together SC will strengthen professional development opportunities through more frequent regional convenings, enhanced peer networks, and accessible, turnkey tools for nonprofit leaders at every level. A redesigned website will improve navigation and engagement, while increased communication across member organizations will ensure that staff at all levels benefit from Together SC’s offerings.

• Bolster visibility around the impact of the nonprofit network, and Together SC’s role in supporting it. The plan calls for new initiatives to elevate awareness of the nonprofit sector’s human and economic contributions. Through statewide advocacy efforts, data collection, and storytelling, Together SC will promote the value of the sector to policymakers, funders, and the public. A new Together SC Ambassador Program will help extend the organization’s reach and strengthen regional connections.

• Increase financial sustainability to ensure robust support for SC nonprofits for years to comeTo sustain its mission long-term, Together SC will enhance its revenue model, grow the profitability of its trainings and convenings, and pursue new grants and sponsorships that expand its capacity to serve. The organization will also invest in staff, technology, and infrastructure to ensure strong operational support for its members statewide. 

With valuable input from our stakeholders, we were able to draft a strategic plan that supports a promising vision for the future of nonprofits in our state. Our board was engaged at a high-level to bring this plan to fruition and we are excited about the future impact of Together SC and our nonprofit network.
