Professional Bio

Toy R. Pilot, Executive Director of the South Carolina Respite Coalition, I have over 28 years of dedicated service to children and families, and 15 years of experience working with families’ caregivers caring for children and adults with disabilities, and special needs. I specialized in creating personalized learning strategies and maintaining a positive environment for children with diagnosed disabilities, and significant special needs. My personal experience of providing care for my father, and aging grandmother. I am a powerful force in the community, as I educate the public and policy makers regarding the need for respite for family caregivers.
Throughout my career, I have championed inclusive programs, advocated for equitable access to resources, and built strong community partnerships that empower individuals to thrive.
An enthusiastic advocate on advisory boards, spoken at conferences, and contributed to policy discussions aimed at improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. My work was guided by the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of ability.
As Executive Director of the SC Respite Coalition, I oversee strategic vision, program development, and organizational growth, ensuring that services remain responsive to the evolving needs of the community.
I use her cheerful outlook and tireless energy to encourage others to work harder to advocate for respite for family caregivers. I am inspired daily by my husband and their three children, one beautiful granddaughter, and our family dog “Hershey.” I have led the most recent development and expansion of the Breakroom Project.
