Professional Bio

Sandi Smith is the Executive Director of the Augustine Literacy Project of the Upstate (ALP), where she leads an organization supported by more than 60 highly trained volunteer tutors who delivered over 2,000 free, individualized tutoring lessons to young readers in the Upstate community during the past school year. An Orton-Gillingham tutor and CERI-certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist, she brings expertise in literacy instruction, technical project management, and nonprofit leadership to her work.

Sandi has served ALP as a tutor, trainer, board member, and co-director, giving her a deep understanding of the organization’s programs, operations, and long-term potential. Her leadership has strengthened tutor preparation and literacy instruction across the organization.

Her personal connection to the mission is rooted in her experience as the mother of a dyslexic child, and she is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty through literacy by ensuring that every student served by ALP receives the support they need to thrive.
