Caryn Pumphrey

Caryn Pumphrey is the Executive Director of The Free Medical Clinic in Columbia, South Carolina, where she leads one of the state's largest providers of free healthcare for uninsured adults. With more than 20 years of nonprofit leadership experience, Caryn has built a career centered on expanding access to healthcare, strengthening communities, and developing sustainable organizations through strategic partnerships, philanthropy, and innovation.

Since joining The Free Medical Clinic in 2016, Caryn has played a pivotal role in the organization's growth, first as Director of Development and Communications before being appointed Executive Director. Under her leadership, the Clinic has expanded community partnerships, strengthened financial sustainability, enhanced care coordination, and advanced programs designed to improve health outcomes for underserved populations.
Throughout her career, Caryn has held executive and development leadership positions with organizations including the University of South Carolina, EdVenture Children's Museum, Youth Corps, Homeless No More, Girl Scouts of South Carolina, and the Cultural Council of Richland and Lexington Counties. Her expertise spans executive leadership, strategic planning, fundraising, grant development, board governance, marketing, communications, and organizational development.

A collaborative leader, Caryn is passionate about building cross-sector partnerships that address barriers to healthcare while cultivating the next generation of healthcare professionals through volunteer and educational partnerships. She believes that access to quality healthcare is fundamental to healthy communities and works to create innovative solutions that connect people with the care and resources they need.

Caryn holds a Master of Arts in Arts Administration from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of South Carolina.
