Together SC Launches Association Health Plan
After nearly a year of planning, I am thrilled to share that on January 1, 2022, we officially launched the Together SC Association Health Plan (the "Plan"). United Way of Greenville County is leading the way. Many thanks to the team at United Way of Greenville County as they are the first organization to join. Having nearly 50 employees, their commitment was critical to making this Plan happen.
The United Way Association of SC is also working with us. We hope other United Ways will find savings in joining the Plan themselves and help promote the Plan in their communities. This has been a long time in the making. When Together SC was founded in 1996, one of the initial objectives was to create an Association Health Plan for its members, especially nonprofits with smaller size staff. Unfortunately, the regulatory structure was not favorable for a plan that provided meaningful cost savings until 2018, when changes in the federal regulations encouraged, many associations like Together SC to revisit the idea. Ever since I joined the Together SC staff in 2012, I've been asked by members, "How can we get affordable health insurance for our employees?" It's been a question for which I've struggled to find a good answer. PEOs (Professional Employer Organizations) have been a good option for some. Healthcare.gov has also provided an option for others. Yet, there are some organizations for whom there's been no affordable option. Now, at last we have another, much better option! We are thrilled to be working with David Slade of Marsh McLennan Agency, and Will Joseph and the Association Plan team at BlueCross BlueShield of SC to develop a Health Plan that is accessible to all 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations in South Carolina. Who's Eligible?Any 501(c)3 Nonprofit organization that is a current member of Together SC may participate in the Plan. Organizations don't have to be a member to receive a proposal, but must join Together SC before enrolling in the Plan. What Coverages does the AHP Offer? The Plan offers Medical ( 18 different BCBS options), plus Vision and Dental, as well as Life and Disability benefits. How will the Plan be administered? This Plan, fully-insured by BlueCross BlueShield of SC, is overseen by the Together SC Group Insurance Trust, a Together SC member committee responsible for representing the interests of the Plan participants. Trustees will be elected to one-year terms by current Plan member organizations. Marsh McLennan Agency will assist members in getting proposals from the Plan, and guiding them through the enrollment process. Capstone will assist Together SC with administration. And, of course, I'm here to help. Want to Learn More?Join us for a virtual information session on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Noon.
