Spartanburg hosts state’s largest conference for nonprofit professionals

COLUMBIA, SC (12/10/15) – The South Carolina Association of Nonprofit Organizations (SCANPO) will host the 2016 South Carolina Nonprofit Summit next spring at the Marriott in downtown Spartanburg, S.C. The Nonprofit Summit is South Carolina’s largest conference designed specifically for professionals working in the state’s nonprofit sector. Hundreds of attendees will convene in Spartanburg from March 9-11, where they will hear from national speakers and more than 60 nonprofit experts on topics such as leadership, fundraising, marketing, board development, and finance and operations.

Several Spartanburg-based nonprofits led the effort to bring this statewide conference to the Upstate. The local host organizations are Mary Black Foundation, The Spartanburg County Foundation, Spartanburg Regional Foundation and United Way of the Piedmont. Local leaders helped to develop the conference program that includes attendees visiting with several local nonprofits, an evening reception at the Chapman Cultural Center, the opportunity to dine at local restaurants, and attending a Spartanburg Little Theatre production.

“As a philanthropic host sponsor, we are thrilled to welcome our state’s nonprofit community to Spartanburg,” says Troy Hanna, president of The Spartanburg County Foundation. “We want to ensure attendees get an opportunity to experience our city and witness first-hand how we collaborate and work together as a community.”

Hanna’s sentiments complement the overall theme for the Summit which is “Collaboarate + Action = CollaborACTION – a formula for success.”

“Spartanburg has received such wonderful national recognition for community collaboration,” says Madeleine McGee, SCANPO’s president. “It quickly became apparent that CollaborACTION was the perfect theme for a gathering in Spartanburg.”

Registration for the event is open to volunteers and professionals working with any nonprofit organization, as well as for-profit businesses who serve the nonprofit sector and academic institutions. Members of the statewide association receive a discounted rate. For more information about the 2016 Nonprofit Summit and to register online, visit summit.scanpo.org.
