The Project:
Breakfast Business and Professional Women of Spartanburg (BBPW) is a local non-profit whose diverse, dynamic membership believes in the equality of all women in the workplace. BBPW supports women seeking to further their education, securing a solid future for themselves and their families by providing annual education scholarships. The monies raised from this event will go towards the BBPW Education Scholarship Fund.

Special guests Katherine Goble Moore and Joylette Goble, the daughters of famed NASA scientist Katherine Goble Johnson, will retell the story of their mother's remarkable life as a black woman who began her education in a one-room segregated classroom only to become integral to the success of the NASA space program. Ms. Johnson's story was featured in the 2017 film Hidden Figures.

The Johnson daughters will bridge the narrative of the evening as we showcase the incredible talents and contributions made by women in this community. Creatively imagined through spoken word, song, dance and instrumental music, the sharing of stories will build connections of understanding between us.

Project goals:
•    To Raise $8,000 for the BBPW Scholarship Fund
•    To increase awareness about the importance of education
•    To create an impactful event that will leave a long-lasting impression on the community

The Performance:
A live performance will feature women from Spartanburg plus special guests. Through a sculpted performance featuring music, spoken word, theatre and dance, stories of the women of this community will be shared. The production will highlight how our personal narratives are universal.

The overarching themes will be of empowerment, celebration and unity. The evening will begin with a pianist on the stage, lit, whose music sets the tone. A solo performer will join the pianist for a spoken word presentation. From here, dancers take the stage; then a monologue; followed by a moderated discussion with the Johnson daughters.

The community will be invited to this ticketed performance, with a reception to follow. The reception is an extension of the performance, as the performers will engage in conversation with the audience members. This is an integral part of the evening, as the themes raised in the performance prompt many in attendance to want to share their experiences.

Cost:  $35 per ticket
