USC Scholarship for Non-Profit Interns

Posted By Administration, Thursday, February 21, 2019

Thanks to the generosity of William L. Richter, the USC Columbia Career Center is able to offer a selective and prestigious scholarship designed to financially support undergraduate students who have secured an unpaid internship at a vetted non-profit organization in the Columbia area. The program supports students interested in gaining work experience during the summer that relates to their professional and academic goals.

Interns will have the opportunity to do the following:

  •  Witness how members of Columbia non-profit organizations address problem solving for a variety of issues on a daily basis.
  • Develop professional skills to prepare for future employment, and to strengthen resumes.
  • Make a positive impact on the Columbia community.

Scholarship Funding & Course Credits

For the Summer 2019 term, two students will each be selected as interns and awarded a scholarship of either $2500 (part-time internship) or $5000 (full-time internship). Funds will be distributed to each intern twice during the internship: half within a week of the internship start date and half within a week of the midpoint of the internship. Funds will be deposited directly into the intern’s USC account. Intern recipients are encouraged to use the funding for the following expenses:

  • Compensation for their internship
  • Transportation/hotels/relocation
  • Professional attire/materials/supplies
