SC Society of Association Executives (SCSAE) sponsors annual trade show in Columbia

Don't Miss Meetings & Events Trade Show on Jan. 28

If your organization hosts a conference, gala, board retreat or other special event then you will want to attend the annual Trade Show sponsored by the SC Society of Association Executives (SCSAE) from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday, January 28 at the Columbia Convention Center.

Some 60 meeting venues from SC, NC and GA and other suppliers will be on hand to share information with nonprofit leaders and event planners. You'll get the chance to speak with representatives from hotels, resorts, convention bureaus, boutique venues and more.

Come enjoy your favorite appetizers and beverages while gathering information for your next event. Valuable door prizes will be awarded as well. Don't miss the fun!

There is no charge for attending the SCSAE Trade Show.

New Year, New Website!

SCANPO is excited to announce that we have completely overhauled our website! After many years of maintaining multiple websites (a public "front-page" site and a separate "members-only" website) we've merged the two together and updated our look for 2016!

Here's some new things to note:

  • Mobile-Friendly: Today's nonprofit leader is often working on-the-go, and so our entire website is now officially mobile-friendly, and will re-arrange content to fit on a cell phone screen so that our members and friends can find what they are looking for while "out in the field".
  • Easier Navigation: We've updated our menu headings to help our members and friends find what they are looking for! Public and Members-only resources and information can all now be found on the right-side "Resources" menu! Some of those resources do require one to log in as a member, though.
  • Easier Member Login: The Member Login box now appears on the home page! You can log in to access members-only resources, renew your membership, register for the SC Nonprofit Summit and other training opportunities at the member rate, and access the Nonprofit Career Connection Center as a member, and more much easier!
    • IMPORTANT NOTE: While SCANPO has different membership categories, there are two kinds of membership accounts!
      • Organizational Member Accounts: These accounts are the "members of record" and represent each member organization as a whole. Each member organization has only one of these accounts, usually in the name of the CEO or another primary contact person. The organization's member dues and other financial transactions with SCANPO are processed through this account.
      • Individual Staff and Board Member Accounts: Each organizational member can have up to 20 Individual "sub-accounts" attached to it for their staff members and board members. You can invite staff or board members to join under the organizational membership by logging in, and from "My Member Profile", --> "Manage Profile" --> Staff & Board Members, and then entering their email addresses in the invitation field. They will receive an email inviting them to register with SCANPO for no additional dues.

We hope our members like the new look and find the site much easier to use! If you do have difficulty finding a particular resource, just let us know, and we'll be glad to help!

Coastal Community Foundation announces new CEO and retirement of longtime VP

December saw two significant leadership changes at Coastal Community Foundation.  

After a national search, Coastal Community Foundation recently announced that a South Carolina native, Darrin Goss, has been tapped to serve at organization's fourth CEO. SCANPO welcomes Darrin. Having worked with him when he was with the United Way of Greenville County, we look forward to doing so once again.

One SC Flood Relief Fund awards $500,000 in grants

The first grant recipients of the One SC Flood Relief Fund, housed at Central Carolina Community Foundation have been announced. A total of $500,000 in grants will be distributed to 13 South Carolina nonprofits to support their flood recovery projects in a number of hard-hit areas. Learn who the recipients are and about Phase II funding. Applications are due by 6 p.m. on Jan. 8, 2016.

Columbia grant-writing workshop open for registration

Plumb to retire as executive director from SC Arts Alliance

After more than 30 years in the arts administration and advocacy field, 27 of those years with the South Carolina Arts Alliance (SCAA), Betty Plumb will be stepping down as executive director effective September 1, 2016 on her 70th birthday. Betty is a past SCANPO board member and worked hard to get the state's charity raffle bill passed. Read more.
