In accordance with the Every Student Succeeds Act, Title IV, Part B, 21st Century Community Learning Centers, the South Carolina Department of Education is required to post a list of pre-screened external organizations that have knowledge and expertise necessary to assist 21st CCLC subgrantees in carrying out the activities outlined in their approved grants.
The term "external organization" is defined, by ESSA, as:
(A) a nonprofit organization with a record of success in running or working with before and after school (or summer recess) programs and activities; or
(B) in the case of a community where there is no such organization, a nonprofit organization in the community that enters into a written agreement or partnership with an organization to receive mentoring and guidance in running or working with before and after school (or summer recess) programs and activities.
To meet this requirement, the South Carolina Department of Education is compiling a list of external organizations in South Carolina.
To be included on the list, organizations must meet the minimum requirements below and complete the ESSA External Organization Profile.
- Operate as nonprofit in good standing in South Carolina; and
- Have a minimum of five years’ experience operating or delivering services to out-of-school time programs in South Carolina.”
