Involvement Opportunity: SW Practice with Organizations and Communities

Posted By Mary Ann Priester, Monday, October 3, 2016

Dear SCANPO members,

My name is Mary Ann Priester and I am a graduate assistant for the Social Work Practice with Organizations and Communities course at the University of South Carolina. I am emailing you on behalf of Dr. Kirk Foster.

The College of Social Work at the University of South Carolina invites community-oriented organizations to partner with it in service-learning. In Social Work Practice with Organizations and Communities, student groups will work with community-oriented organizations to address a specific question of concern to the organization. The students will apply the skills and knowledge learned in the classroom along with gaining new skills and knowledge working alongside trusted partners, while you will receive assistance on a project. Deliverables from this process may assist organizations in receiving grant funding, lead to program development/redevelopment, mapping community assets, strengthen community cohesion, and increase cooperation between nonprofits and schools, just to name a few.

The application process is easy – just click the Survey Monkey link and answer a few short questions. The RFP is attached should you want to complete the questions off-line then copy and paste. Each accepted project will be paired with a group of 5 students for the duration of the spring semester and overseen by a faculty member. The attached project overview provides greater details.

Please contact Dr. Kirk Foster ( or 803-777-2377) with any questions. Please apply soon because applications are due by October 21st!
