This course is a fast-paced learning opportunity for managers of nonprofit organizations (NPO) to understand how they can assess the strength of their organization from a financial management perspective. This course will include a review through a case study approach of five key areas of NPO financial management: budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, cash flow management and risk management.  Then, participants will bring it all together to learn how to assess the strength of their financial management processes and systems, so that they can target improvements in their own organizations.

The course is led by Jackie F. Breland, a Certified Public Accountant, financial consultant and President of Jackie Breland Consulting, P.A., a firm that provides comprehensive financial management services to clients in the non-profit, governmental and small business for profit sectors in South Carolina.  Jackie‚Äôs focus area is working with small to medium-sized organizations to provide assistance in building financial capacity and strengthening accounting systems and processes. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand best practices in 5 key areas of nonprofit financial management: budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, cash flow management and risk management
  • Learn how to apply those best practices in your own organization
  • Learn how to assess the strength of your financial management processes and systems in your own organization and how to target improvements on those systems for the future
