Seminar Description

Managing Non-Profit Finances is an overview of critical financial management issues common to most non-profit organizations. Topics include fundamentals of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and regulatory compliance. Presented in the language of the non-financial layperson, this seminar assures no attendee need be intimidated by financial management terms. The goal is for all stakeholders – whether board members, staff, or volunteers – to  better understand key financial drivers that help or hinder the nonprofit organization’s ability to survive and thrive in today’s complex world.
Specific topic areas provide an overview of:

  • How to read financial statements and tax forms
  • How capital structure differs between startups and mature nonprofit organizations
  • How to effectively manage cash flow through the highs and lows of the calendar year
  • Effective forecasting as the foundation for budget planning
  • The importance of managing the organization’s cost structure to minimize risk and maximize flexibility
  • The art of creating persuasive financial plans that attract donor capital

Use this concise but broad session to help diagnose and prioritize your organization’s individual needs, and choose among follow-up seminars that dive deeper into financial issues and topics most relevant to your organization.
